I really liked that each letter of the alphabet told a different part of the story rather than just a different or random object.
That made this book a good read to me. I also like that the copy I had, had the story in the form of a song as well! Dec 11, Sydney Ossege rated it really liked it Shelves: exploring-classics , exploring-assignment. I love the way that the alphabet guides the reader throughout this book. The letters are not just thrown onto a page without context. However, A leads to the discussion for B and then B leads to C and so on.
The text itself is very well written to detail the day of the bunny and all it encounters, but then the imagery that is used in the book as well is why this book can be considered a classic! I remember having this book read to me when I was little and I am proud to see it still be using used I love the way that the alphabet guides the reader throughout this book. I remember having this book read to me when I was little and I am proud to see it still be using used today! Sep 26, Melissa rated it liked it Shelves: reading-challenge , newbery-honor , kids-picture. This is the second of the author's books to be awarded the Newbery Honor and the second picture book.
This one is a rather unique abcdiary that in addition to teaching the abcs complete with piano sheet music and lyrics tells the story of a bunny who is surprised by an apple's fall and travels from bunny land to elsewhere. I preferred it over the author's "Millions of Cats".

I read this for my Reading Challenge and my Newbery Challenge. Sep 02, Kay rated it it was amazing. Mentioned as one of the books taken into the hollers of Kentucky by The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek , this was a fun "historical" look at an "old-fashioned" children's books--not so different from contemporary ones except all the illustrations are black-and-white. The lilting rhymes, the captivating images and the song with musical score at the back add a lot to this delightful book!
Apr 30, Andrea Mack rated it liked it Shelves: informational-books. This is a story about a bunny. It uses objects in the book to teach each letter of the alphabet. This is a great read aloud book for young fives to kindergarten to teach the alphabet as well as practice objects associated with the letters.
I rated this 3 stars because it was on okay book to teach the alphabet. It would still be very useful in a read aloud, but the book does seem a little dated with the illustrations. The effectiveness of the book still works.

Apr 22, Kaitlyn Luzar rated it it was amazing Shelves: exploring-classics , exploring-assignment. This book is a great resource for teaching young children phonemic awareness. This is a story about a bunny that gets lost and has to find his way home. This particular bunny travels to many different places and meets different people. Each destination has a new beginning with a different letter of the alphabet.
This is a great book for teachers and young children! Apr 07, Jessica Tirone rated it it was amazing Shelves: exploring-assignment , exploring-classics. This book was cute and most definitely geared towards the little ones but It had a great story line. Each letter and what it stood for held its own piece to the story. I would use this in a preschool classroom and even before then at home just to get the little one familiarized with the alphabet and some things that go with that letter.
Jun 16, Steve Ward rated it really liked it Shelves: newbery-award. Finally the subject of each letter in this alphabet book is about rabbits so if rabbits interest you so will this book. Apr 15, Lea Fabrizzi rated it liked it Shelves: exploring-classics , exploring-assignment. It takes the readers through the alphabet and gives examples of words for each letter! It has the bunny tell the story of the ABC's and helps readers learn the alphabet.
Apr 09, Brandy Burbach rated it liked it Shelves: in-class , easy-to-read-books , alphabet-books , informational , ages , exploring-assignment , exploring-burbach. As this is a pretty boring book to read, it is a good book to read to your children for them to learn their ABC's. While looking into this book I heard there is a song so I looked it up on Youtube and it is a bit more fun than just reading the book.source site

Haven't read this in years, but it was a nice trip down memory lane Mar 11, Wetdryvac Wetdryvac rated it really liked it. A good fun read, and with a song! Dec 03, Hillary rated it liked it. This book was cute but wasn't my favorite. Sep 03, Whitney Leanhart rated it it was amazing Shelves: animals , helpful-tool , short-story , lesson.
I liked this book because it was a great tool to help children learn about the letters in the alphabet while still telling a story of a bunny. Apr 29, Angie rated it it was ok Shelves: summer-book-a-day-challenge , read-in This is a sweet little book, but I have no idea why it's a Newbery book- there is no story at all. The pictures are very cute, but that's all there is to it.
