He helps us to find Jesus in the Old Testament just as we do in the new. Use just this book for th The Gospel Story Bible: Discovering Jesus in the Old and New Testaments Marty Machowski stories from the Bible, each condensed to fit within the 2 page layout for ease in morning or nightly devotionals. Use just this book for the younger children whose attention span wanders. For the older student incorporate the actual Bible passages into your study.
Illustrations by Anne Macha are brilliant. Very contemporary renderings of the biblical scenes and people. She intentionally leaves all human forms free of color to represent all races of people. Unique and stylish. I loved the texture she put into the drawings as well as the interesting details that set it apart from many bible story books for children. Again the illustrations help to make this book of interest to more than just the youngest listeners. What I loved most about this book after the illustrations is that Marty brings each lesson around to Jesus.
That he pulls from each story and interweaves the lessons to show Jesus even in the Old Testament before he is born on earth. Sometimes I feel children get lost in the Old Testament, not realizing the depth of prophesies. Pointing out similarities between what the old prophets had to write and Jesus, help to tie the Bible into a full circle rather than just a linear of events. All point back to Jesus, one with the Father, creator of the world. All opinions of this book are entirely my own. Dec 07, Laura rated it it was amazing.
I am using it as a devotional for my nine-year-old to do daily. It starts out with a scripture reading your child looks it up in your preferred Bible version , and then it tells the story in a simple story form, which will make the Bible reading come to life. It also includes an application—how your child can apply it to their own life—and two or three questions for your child to answer.
I have my daughter answer them out loud. My six-year-old cuddled in my lap while I read her a page out of this Bible each day. My daughter read through a Bible school book in a short time and this book is designed to take slower, a story a day, for the elementary age student. She loved it. According to the flyer I received with this book, the author is also developing a companion devotional and Sunday school curriculum February This Bible would be a great addition to church libraries, Sunday school classes and Christian schools, in addition to being invaluable to homeschoolers.
Highly recommended. Jan 23, Shaun rated it it was amazing. Each story is two pages in length, featuring a Bible story reading, a great illustration from A. My family and I have been working through The Gospel Story Bible during mealtime with our children ranging in age from two years all the way up age thirteen. Every time we read a story, each of the children make sure they each get to look the illustration over carefully and from the youngest to oldest, they all participate in the discussion questions.
We have been quite pleased with the level of theological discussion that comes about each and every time we bring out The Gospel Story Bible. The reviewer was under no obligation to offer a favorable review. Jul 24, Melissa rated it really liked it Shelves: books-i-recommend. This is a wonderful take on a story Bible. It tells a story and warning: it doesn't shy away from what happened--it'll tell you when someone drove a spike through someone's head so it doesn't clean up Bible stories from the Bible and the last paragraph always relates it to Jesus and salvation.
The illustrations I think are lacking, sometimes the abstractness of them is confusing and it does not hold my 5 and 1 year old's interest to look at them at all and I don't blame them.
And the choice to This is a wonderful take on a story Bible. And the choice to put the stories on brightly colored paper make it very hard to read on certain colors. My dyslexic husband finds it extra difficult to read aloud from it because of that.

So the presentation lacks a bit. The stories, I believe, are better geared to upper elementary level which I knew it was a little far above my daughter's head but the questions seem more geared to her age.
But though she understands the questions generally though every now and then deep theological questions adults wrestle with and that aren't explicitly answered in the text she has difficulty answering them because the text was too far above her. So, I will use this later when she's older, but will have to increase the complexity of the questions. So just a little bit off in the level of the text verses the level of the questions.
But still, I love the fact that it's telling the stories faithfully to the Biblical text which will be needed to be discussed with children when they notice that it isn't like the picture story Bible texts and that it always comes back to Jesus and salvation. If you love the true Gospel message that it is Jesus and only Jesus that makes us right with God, as opposed to good behavior which is an understandable but heretic message communicated implicitly or explicitly by far too much of children's Christian literature , this is the story bible for you!
And as our older kids have gotten even older, it became boring to them. The Gospel If you love the true Gospel message that it is Jesus and only Jesus that makes us right with God, as opposed to good behavior which is an understandable but heretic message communicated implicitly or explicitly by far too much of children's Christian literature , this is the story bible for you!
The Gospel Story Bible is like the next step up, more advanced in reading level, many more stories from scripture, discussion questions, and similar to the Jesus Storybook Bible, interesting and different artwork, rather than the usual cartoonish and saccharine illustrations you commonly find.http://officegoodlucks.com/order/7/1510-descargar-la-aplicacion.php
Why Bibles Given to Slaves Omitted Most of the Old Testament
Each story also includes how it relates or points to Jesus, which helps us all adults included understand the Bible as one story about God's great love for us, expressed through Jesus's life, death, and resurrection. We find this the most usable of the story bibles we have encountered for Advent, Christmas, and Easter readings, as the stories are more in-depth and less condensed. I would say the only "bad" thing I can say is that because each story is simply two facing pages, and therefore only one picture, and no page turns, it doesn't hold younger kids' interest well.
Break out the Jesus Storybook Bible for that.

I really feel like the author has taken great care in summarizing the Bible stories without adding, taking away, or changing important details. I won't even pretend that I was familiar with every one of the stories to know if there were any issues, but I didn't notice anything so far.
The wording of the stories make me think of the way a Sunday school or Wednesday night teacher would summarize a story for their class. At the end of each story, there a "Let's Talk About It" section that contains I really feel like the author has taken great care in summarizing the Bible stories without adding, taking away, or changing important details.
At the end of each story, there a "Let's Talk About It" section that contains 3 different questions about the story or the picture. I only have one issue with The Gospel Story Bible so far. I know that many of you will roll your eyes at this, but the background colors of the page hurt my eyes.
Each story get a 2-page spread.
The story takes up about a page and then there's a picture taking up the other page. These pages alternate between bright colors. There's about 7 to 8 different colors. It strains my eyes extremely easily and makes them "flash". I wear contacts, so my eyesight isn't the issue. I really do wish that a more neutral color had been used for the pages, but otherwise, I think this book it great!!

Discovery Shows Early Christians Didn’t Always Take the Bible Literally
What I appreciate about this book: 1. Short selections to be read aloud to elementary-aged kids. Each 2 page segment takes 3 to 5 minutes to read.
Good theology. Nice overview of the Bible that doesn't omit non-narrative biblical books. Machowski included many of the epistles, for instance. My children enjoyed the modern illustrations. What wasn't great: 1.
The writing wasn't compelling. The layout. The bright colors used in the book are great to grab kids' attention; however, reading white text on a magenta background is nearly impossible. Many pages of text are on such bright background colors that I found reading to be difficult.
Editing is poor. However, the picture, heading and scripture reference is for Acts 2. All in all, this is a fine book, and I don't regret reading it to my kids. However, I don't plan on re-reading it.
